SUMMARY

Performs any combination of following instructional tasks in the school building to assist teaching staff in the elementary or secondary schools by performing the following duties.  Schedule determined by building principal.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Discusses curriculum area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Assists the teacher in the preparation of instructional materials.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Assists students with the use of audio-visual materials, equipment and computers.
  • Monitoring student lunches, recess times, fire drills, field trips, bus duty, and hall duty.
  • Outside duties: parking lot, fields, driveway, as per administration’s need
  • Lavatory coverage in the high school.
  • Assists in correcting work of the students.
  • Assists in the preparation of duplicating materials.
  • Assist staff with classroom management (e.g., implementation of positive behavior support plans). Intervene to redirect disruptive inappropriate behavior, direct and keep the student(s) on task.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT  

10-month position

 

EVALUATIONS

Performance will be evaluated annually.

 

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to achieve each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Must be able to pass the state-endorsed local assessment in math and language arts. Yearly paraprofessional training required – with a minimal of twenty (20) hours of training yearly. 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or its equivalent.

 

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT CONSIDERATIONS

Ability to get along well with children, and all staff.  Ability to follow teacher and administrator directions.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents and other employees of the school district.                                        

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.                               

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
